Using technology to turn text into video

We recommend repurposing text content into video content because it allows you to bypass the daunting process of ideation and storyboarding. Starting with an existing piece of text content means that you’ll already have a backbone and foundation for you to build your video on.

We built Lumen5 specifically to help people turn text content into videos. The technology we’ve developed can automatically turn your blog posts, news articles, or word documents into engaging video content.

Automate the heavy lifting

We spent a lot of time deconstructing the traditional video editing process in an effort to identify areas that can be automated using artificial intelligence. What we found was that a bulk of the time is spent in tweaking minor details. Some of these tedious tasks include pixel-pushing the placement of text blocks, setting up the proper length for each scene, capturing or procuring footage, and so many more.

We found that the video editing process is a combination of many small tasks, many of which were highly repetitive and detail-oriented. Fortunately for all of us, repetitive and detail-oriented tasks are what machines are best at handling!

Using artificial intelligence and machine learning, the technology we’ve developed performs all of these calculations and automate the many small tasks to make it a breeze for you to create videos. With Lumen5, you can simply enter a link to a blog post, and the system will get to work. Our technology begins by summarizing your content using natural language processing algorithms and then match each scene with relevant media files using computer vision technology. The optimal position for text placement is also automatically calculated while the length of each scene is dynamically determined based on the amount of text on each scene calibrated to the average reading speed of your language.

Play the role of editor

The experience we aim to produce through Lumen5 is to put you in the role of editor and not creator. Rather than creating a video from scratch, the system gets to work and (instantly) produces a first draft, allowing you to simply proofread and make some final changes before publishing the video.
